Wenn der Frühling erwacht, flippen die amerikanischen Studenten aus: Spring Break, das ist die ultimative Party-Zeit. Am sonst eher verschlafenen Lake Victoria drängen sich tausende Feierwütige am Seeufer zum Tanzen, Trinken und Schwimmen. Nicht ahnend, dass ein Erdbeben unter Wasser preis gegeben hat, was zwei Millionen Jahre im Verborgenen blieb! Schwärme von prähistorischen Piranhas, die ihre Beute in Sekundenschnelle mit rasiermesserscharfen Zähnen zerfleischen. Das Buffet ist eröffnet -- nicht nur am Strand...


Der für harte Kost bekannte Regisseur Alexandre Aja ("The Hills Have Eyes") serviert uns sein Remake des Kultfilms von 1978 in 3D. Damit schafft er eine neue Dimension des Horrors mit starken Effekten und einem blutigen dreidimensionalen Überlebenskampf unter Wasser, der auch im Kinosessel nach Luft schnappen lässt. In den Hauptrollen sind Jessica Szohr ("Gossip Girl"), Steven R. McQueen ("The Vampire Diaries") sowie Elisabeth Shue ("Hollow Man") und Richard Dreyfuss ("Der weiße Hai") zum blutigen Festmahl geladen.
