Chartres may be the best-preserved medieval cathedral in Europe. The village is about an hour south west of Paris by train. Built between 1194 and 1260, the gothic cathedral was one of the quickest ever constructed. The churches holiest relic 'the Sancta Camisia' (the robe Mary wore when she gave birth to Jesus) is kept here but was not on display.
