With the current availability of high end steels, a damascus blade is not really necessary anymore. But it looks pretty, and this especially makes sense when married to a "gentlemen knife" concept. Here we have a look at damascus gentlemen folders from Boker, Fox and Puma.

just orderd a puma damascus folder for 70 dollars...... 3 and a half inch blade and it looks so beautifull...... hopefully the quality is as good as it looks.
If you dont mind me asking? how much did you pay for your puma??

I think I paid mine around 70 euros in a local shop (knives are more expensive in Europe). The affordable damascus Pumas are made in China, but even so up to a decent standard.

MrDagon007: This is not corect. You must differentiate betwen optical and funktional damast. If you produce a funktional damast out of modern steel the result can be a steel, who was harder and dont break, if it was flex or bend and flex 100% back. You cant see it with a folder but with longer blades or swords. And than funktional damast can be very great. I have some and i love tham very, very much. No steel is better!

That's a very good comment. I do think that most current damascus for knives is more geared towards optical results. Boker has some very very hard "leo damast" knives, but I don't know how they perform (I wonder if they are perhaps brittle). Anyway, I don't expect damascus to perform better than, say, the M4 blade steel of the Spyderco Gayle Bradley.

I have a sword out of german leo damast steel.
And it is beautifull, extremly hard and unbreakable.
You can flex it 360 degree and it flex 100% back.
It is 69 HRC hard. You can cut everything without damage.
There is no other stteel with this performance.
The only problem: It is not very sainless.
You mußt oil it to protect it from rust.

First the question: What is the perfect steel.
Steel is a compromise. There is NO steel, that is hard, unbreakable and stainless!!!
Yes. It gives harder steel than Leodamast.
Yes. Leodamast isn't stainless.
But it is the best compromise in hardness an unbreakable steel.
The steel is very good for swords. In a folder knive it cant show his performance. M4 is hard but not unbreakable. The compromise is very bad, if you will a unbreakable steel!!!

Ye bro thats roughly what i payed for mine.... im living in ireland so i know what you mean about being more expensive, i have to pay double the price on the net because of taxes and shipping. So puma seemed like the best way for me to get a damascus blade.
Thanx for the reply.

The Leo-Damast combines a very hard "Wälzlagerstahl 1.3505".with the Battletank-Steel of the Leopard 1.
The interest fact of the Leopard-Steel is, that he is hard, but that is not the trick.
The trick of the Leopard-Steel is, that he is very "zäh". He hold the other steel of the damast and help, that it cant breack and was very resistant aganst sharpening for example. In the Leopard 1 the steel help, that the cannontube dont explode, whan the bullet explode.
