I am converting my 87 westy 2wd to a syncro. I have a wrecked 89 syncro donor. I stripped the 89 in my garage and about to assemble my 87 to 4wd.. any advise on what not to do...meaning any major mistakes you would have done differently. I am skilled vw owner (10 vanagons restored over 20 years) just never done a 2wd to 4wd conversion and I've heard many different stories..by the way nice van.

@douchechillum depending on your skill set it can be pretty tough, I have done almost 20 of them now.

How hard is this conversion? I've thought about doing it to my 85' 2wd Westy. Is it worth just waiting to find one that's the "real deal" from the factory?

Ok That interest's me. I have a 91 doka 2wd. I was told that the stress points in the chassy will fail if I converted my doka 2wd too 4wd. What do you think???
thanks

@salamalycoom Syncro doka at the Jagdvlakte search this and you will see a 2wd doka that has been converted to a Syncro, I think it would hold up just fine although I haven't personally converted a doka yet. I already have two Syncro Dokas, one 14 and one 16. :)
