Jay Black with the lead vocals in a remake of the Drifters classic. Released in 1971 the record never charted. Speculation was, due to a contractual dispute with U.A. the record wasn't supported nor promoted. Becker & Fagen of Steely Dan fame did Horns and Strings Arr. for this song

I really like this version, The Drifters version and The Walker Brothers version. I uploaded The Walker Brothers version.

I like John Farnham also. Lots of good pop singers out there like Mark Wynter and so forth.

All of these songs were originally recorded by The Drifters. Just look into Drifters Greatest Hits. Although I have liked some covers, The Drifters did them first and best.

I think everyone knows how great the Drifters are. Songs like this get covered a lot because they are great and its only a credit or tribute to the greatness of the original singers. I think most singers that cover great songs like this, do it out of respect and not because they think they can do it better.
