NB: All comments concerning suggesting or encouraging physical harm to, or assassination of Mr. Beck or his family will not be tolerated.

To respond to the comment made by most who watch this video: Yes, he himself was poor for a good while before working his way up in the radio industry. Do your homework before you make assumptions, and try to focus on the point he's making, rather than assuming you know why he's making it.

It's amazing how nearly everyone is missing the point here. The point is "Is it ok to question our definitions of 'poor' for the sake of a critique of current welfare practice?" Some say, "No. You're not allowed to ask that. If you do it *must* be because you *hate* poor people." Please note, this is the same logic some use to say that because Obama is for redistribution, he must be a Socialist, Marxist, or Communist. Hopefully, you can do better. But personal attacks prove only that we haven't the spine to interact with what's actually being said.

  • Correct in that his past addictions drove him to poverty I should clarify his family of origin's socio economic status was not working poor or lower class.

  • @sekenney88 I don't know about his parents...but does that invalidate his poverty? Or the reality of the kinds of deprivation that come with 12+ years of substance abuse? Not really sure what you mean by that. I'd say it's pretty significant whether he's from the suburbs or the ghetto. But that's me. In any case, I'm skeptical of the entire argument/idea that's being implied--that he has to have had an impoverished upbringing to thoughtfully challenge assumptions about poverty in America.

  • herp de derp "Cable TV, two colour tvs and a car are rights".

Whatever happened to self intrest, "that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine." Your life sucks, touche. Your problem.

  • Glen said "If you grind up the poor and needy real fine like, they taste great, and that is why he loves the poor." He didn't mention that 65 million Americans have more than 1 family cramed in a home and are looking for something more than a minimum wage part time job with that 12 people TV set and microwave. He didn't say I'm fat and that 45 million Americans go hungry and have no mediacl care. He didn't say that 3.5 million are living in a tent! Good old Glen - inventor of soil-n-green!

  • Of course you need cable and internet if you are on welfare. Sitting on your ass all day would be boring as hell if you didn't. You might get so bored you might actually go get a job.

  • Yeh, going to college and working hard at menial jobs and then becoming "too old" to compete in a youth oriented job market were my poor choices in life. Ayn Rand would be disappointed in me. However, poverty is about economic security and having adequate health coverage for that big $100,000 operation. It's not about spending money. I get by fine on a tight budget without having a family to support, but it's damned hard for a part time worker over 50 to get insurance. That's the real issue.

  • I agree with the points Glenn is making. I grew up up in what is defined now as being poor. I'm only 30 year old now. I had a run of bad luck and I paid off alotta debt, I didnt go for handouts, I sold anything I could, got rid of the cable, internet, everything, and paid it all off. I now live comftorably in an apartment, have a car, pay my own bills, go to school full time and still dont waste time and money on tv channels.

  • Imagine Glenn Beck 1,000 years ago: "70% of 'the poor' don't have the plague! 90% have two or more chickens! 63% own their own cow!"

  • There is a big difference between the poor and the impoverished. The poor actually do not qualify for the food stamp program, Once you are homeless, you can not get food stamps. I know a woman who lives off of less than ten thousand dollars a year, yes she has cable tv. and alot of cats. She invited me for thanks giving, i couldnt eat, i swear that turkey had a tail.

  • AAAAH PORKY!!!

  • beck must die hes a cunt
