@Wachman is right, he didn't emphasize making the C feel like home, that could confuse beginners.

I'll keep it simple.
The A minor and C major scales have the same notes, but when you play a scale, you should keep the root (i.e starting note) of that scale (A or C) in mind, you should also try to start your playing on the root, the root will feel like home and whatever you play will be in relation to the root. That's what will give your playing its character.

@twinkie999 agreed. i have a guitar for 3 years now. back then i was like ohh i dont need to learn notes and shit. well i was obviously a little prick so i started to learn in a normal fashion way now with reading chords etc etc. this is the only way to really understand music. hard work but its definetly worth it

learning shapes and memorizing licks is no way to learn to play guitar. people should learn music and chords to know what theyre actually playing. we should have better music programs in school.
