Marsie, You may have known him personally but you do not love his memory very much to include the saddest part of his life and death in your remarks.

I had an old album of a session at some kinda roadhouse party--said on the album to "be there or be square"--kinda hokey, but Scotty played old joe clark on that one, and it's the best I've ever heard. Lost the album, and wish I hadn't. It said on the back cover that he used to go to the chicken pen & kick up the chickens, so he could imitate their sounds.

@MarsieNeal, amazing!
...I don't suppose you played bass on a track called 'The Martian Band'?
It's hilarious!

Jubilee Mule has my favorite version of this.

Great fiddling!
Thank you for posting. I used to listen to Scotty at the Bluegrass Inn in Nashville and at the City Music Lounge. He was the best--he always brought the house down and was very generous as a person and a performer.

I knew Scotty Stoneman personally. I played bass guitar for him ~6 yrs. My father, Ardell Neal, played lead guitar. I remember many days & nights at Pop & Mama Stoneman's mansion in Hendersonville. Sometimes we would play all night long. Scotty pawned his fiddle and borrowed my dad's fiddle. He got caught DUI and was in Kingston, Tn. jail. He died in the jail and now my father's fiddle hangs in "The Fiddler's Hall of Fame" in Nashville, Tn. Scotty was 9 times World Champion Fiddler.
