All you have to do is multiple 6.0 by 1.6 km/1 mile and it equals 9.6 km and saves steps.
-
it should be 96.6 km
-
OR you could have just said how many km are in 6.0 miles X 1.6km/1mile= 9.6....This is a one step however, i sudgest people get use to ALL the conversion factors because youll need them later!

The method I use on the calculator is to multiply all of the "top" numbers together and then divide by each of the "bottom" numbers. In this problem multiply 60 x 5280 x 12 x 2.54 then take that sum and divide it by 100 and then that sum by 1000.
Another method that some people use is to multiply all the top numbers and write the sum then multiply the bottom numbers and write the sum. Then divide the top sum by the bottom sum.

isn't 60 miles 96.56064 miles?

It's 6.0 miles the decimal is hard to see. It's rounded to 9.6 because of significant digits.
