This video shows some of the participants of the Yung Flutes Shakuhachi Making Workshop in New york City on February 2009. Everyone walked away with a fully playable all natural shakuhachi. I was very impressed with the focus and craftsmanship of everyone involved!

  • how do you fined the mesherments for creating the sound?

  • does anyone know why you start tuning a flute from the bottom hole? every hole you tune closer to the mouth hole that you tune throws the one beneath it a little flatter. Why not start with the top hole and work your way down?

  • I've found that drilling the bamboo tends to splinter it around the hole, sometimes even if its taped. Not sure if my drills are ground properly or if its my technique. I've had much better luck burning them in. It's quieter also.

  • Cool idea, but I don't like the noise of power tools,

especially if I was making a Shakuhachi.

  • There went my zen-style romantic ideas out the window...

  • behind the scenes tho' good vid^^

  • that would be fun to learn to make one and go to that class. nice video

  • compliments....

  • That would be fun.

  • Wow , amazing indeed.! =P
