One of mine has elbow dysplasia really bad, but after seeing a dog two years after the op and reading hundreds of articles about the condition I decided not to have the op.

My 1 year old Bernese Mountain Dog is going into surgery in August for his elbow dysplasia so I empathize with you, but I don't believe you should place the blame completely on the breeder (unless they have refused to communicate with you about this issue since you informed them).
