Fake Love is the second in a series of three short films by Aaron Rose shot in the Echo Park and Silverlake neighborhoods of Los Angeles using his iPhone 4. The film is Rose's tribute to teen soap operas, a genre he finds both mystifying and exciting; he feels that American television "is the new avant-garde cinema."

The story follows a gang of girls, one of whom believes that "fake love" is more exciting than true love. Instead of actors, Rose compiled a group of musicians, poets, writers, photographers and artists that hang out at the notorious all-ages club The Smell in Los Angeles. According to Rose, "They didn't really have to act because they are such amazing personalities."

  • I love the look of this, i don't know what it's called.. but the way its faded, and sometimes the contrast is taken up, and the lens flare.. it makes this film for me.. Give it a Californian Neo-Hipster feel.. It's so soft yet so powerful.. One of my favourite independant short films. I speechless, even though it's probably about my 17th time watching this .. Kudos Aaron Rose & Good Luck for the Future

  • Pretty cool. Saw Crazy Band in Frisco opening for No Age, I think I spotted them in the pit as well.

    Grimy surfy sounds...pretty cool.

  • Fantastic work. Enjoyed this :)

  • @MrTate00 this is chris, sometimes the interns in the studio get a amped on the social networking.. i don't agree with what was posted originally, but i also don't agree with your post.. just because we are all artists doesn't mean we all like each other. anyway, that being said, you're right.. shouldn't have anyone , especially someone representing me, posting things like that. but in the end, i also kind of don't care.. it's a comment on youtube not an article in Art In America.

  • @themountainlabel - it's a shame that an art studio such as The Mountain Label would post a slanderous comment about a fellow artist. not a good way to represent the founder Christopher Bettig or other supporting members. shame.

  • i want some fake love

  • DEANNA!!!!

  • i'd have sex with that one girl, but otherwise this is a no go.

  • This is still pretty amazing that this whole thing was shot on a phone!

  • words aren't even good enough to express how boring that was. waste of time
