Keep Classical Music Alive in the Schools
By Bob Barboza
There is something special about live music. I am on a special mission to keep music alive in the schools. Sometimes I will launch a campaign for blues and jazz and sometimes for classical music. This time around it is definitely classical music. When ask to make a selection on a classical music group, I choose the Bella Musica Flute Quartet. The quartet is made up of four beautiful women playing their hearts out. Rena Urso-Trapani is the founder of the group and plays flute in the quartet. Briana Bandy plays viola, Sharon Rizzio plays cello and Angela Scalise plays violin. It is classical music with heart and soul. Bella Musica is flat out inspiring and that is what is needed to get kids excited about music. Kids Talk Radio in partnership with the Afterschool Alliance is hosting a virtual concert and Bella Musica has been chosen to be in it.
I had the opportunity to attend a private rehearsal of Bella Musica and this is what kids need to experience. We may have to think different in the way that we present classical music to young people today.
