  • What methods do you use to reliably shoot in wider-than-16:9 aspect ratio? (Loved your movie at 48HFP!)

  • @jruxfilms There really wasn't much to it. I always shoot with the grid display on the monitor and we just added an imaginary crop to it. In post I just laid a png on top of it and if my framing was off I had plenty of wiggle room to push it up or pull it down to make it work.

And thanks for the compliment. It means a lot coming from someone who every year puts together such impressive productions as yourself. The first year I was involved with the 48 was the year you did Supply and Demand and I remember thinking that no matter how much time I had I couldn't produce something THAT good! And this year after the first screening I left expecting your film to win every award I was hoping to win including best picture.

  • that's my brother. woot.

  • @rubberneck26 Thanks for the kind words! We always try to make something more complicated/complex each year... not sure what's in store next June. :) I'm working on a new short right now that I'm thinking about shooting "wider" than 16:9 ... I'm just afraid of shooting everything TOO wide and then not getting the framing that I want when I super-letterbox it in Final Cut. I'll play around with it a little bit. Thanks.
