BI-PARTISANSHIP GETS BENCHED WHEN DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS MEET ON THE COURT IN ANNUAL HOOPS BATTLE

Proceeds will Support Foster Grandparent Program

( Carson City , NV ; April 24, 2009) -- Can Republicans go to their left? Can Democrats go right to the hoop? Those are two of the questions to be answered when elected officials of the two parties meet for the Bi-Annual Donkeys/Elephants Basketball Classic. The game will pit elected Republican officeholders against their Democrat counterparts, and will also feature competitions among prominent NBA Development League players, UNR Wolfpack and local high school standouts, and entertainment by the UNR Dance Team. Tip-off is Wednesday, April 29th , 7:00 p.m. at the Carson High School Gym.

The game has been known to be a hotly contested affair, especially as the clock winds down and both sides attempt to claim victory. In the six games on record, the Republicans lead the series four games to two.

The game, which is traditionally played during the legislative session, is organized by the Secretary of State. Secretary Ross Miller will be playing on the Democrat team which is being captained by Assemblyman John Oceguera. Assemblyman Chad Christensen will captain the Republican squad. Reno High head coach Kyle Schellin and Galina High head coach Tom Mauer, two of the most notable high school coaches in the nation will don stripes for the game and attempt to enforce the rules of order on the court. Courtside play-by-play and color commentary will be provided by noted basketball aficionado and observer of partisan behavior, Jon Ralston.

Tickets for the Donkey/Elephant Basketball Classic are just $10, and may be purchased at the door, or in advance at the Secretary of States office in the State Capitol building, or at the Sargeant At Arms Office in the Legislature.
