@cobbywebbo Partly. The real answer lies in the fact the Spinners were "acquired" , and set aside
as not to compete evenly with the aforementioned groups.
Truth be told, if I was a record producer, I'd put Bobby Smith (studio wise) up against anyone, including
Levi Stubbs.
Gordy Jr knew this, smart executive that he is, took the competition out of the picture and concentrated
on the Big money-makers, Tempts, Tops, Miracles and of course, Supremes.
Fabulous? Hands-down!!!!!!!!!!!

@mrjoshjones1 The answer lies in the Incredible roster Motown had and ahead of the Spinners were the 4 Tops, The Temptations and To an extent the Isley Brothers. But yes something must have gone wrong for them as they were brilliant.

SUPERB

As I listen to this instrumental version, all I can think is something must have
gone really bad for the Original Spinners during their stint at Motown.
There has never been a full book written by any of the Spinners describing what
they faced during their career.
All I can say ... Bobby Smith Sr's impeccable vocals, the 4-PART Spinners tight harmonies, Great material, and the Funk Brothers!!!!
Why did they have to wait to emerge as the top male R&B group (in the 70's)?
Fabuolus record.

Great Backer! Thanks for posting! Not to be picky...but this song is the backing track to the Spinners' "I'll Always Love You", not to be confused with the Isley Bros Motown track "I Guess I'll Always Love You".
