Even in purely electronic music you can find a balance between organic sounds and electronical filtering.
Harmony is to be created on all levels of music.
I don't see the problem of getting a bassdrum groovy swinging with a hihat and a snaredrum exclusively for electronical music.
Weaving sounds, no matter if it is electronically enhanced, with an accoustic instrument or in your head, sound will be according to rhythmical dynamix, since human minds seeks out patterns by itself.
well, personally i enjoy the use of real instruments (or even just an electric piano) over the constant loop, but it sometimes that one loop that can change the entire feel of the song.
I never know what I should play live & what I should paint in. I've tried playing some songs entirely live & they usually come out sounding better but too sloppy in parts. I've tried painting in a lot of parts but it comes out sounding too mechanical.
I've found playing some guitar overtop of the finished beat can help it sound more organic.
ah! i see.
Well said!

i think the problem is more or less the organic sound OF said kick drum rather than the harmony of sound and silence. i could be way off though.

I get the question, but where is the problem?
Keeping the harmony between sound and silence does not necessarily require a bassdrum...heheh =^_^=
