I'm not really sure what's happened to Cima De Triomphe's form in his last 3 races? He came into this race having run two really good races at San Siro, and ran a blinder for 2nd against Viola Ici in this race. But he's since went to Longchamp, and finished 7th of 10 in the Prix Dollar. Back to San Siro, where he finished dead last in the Premio Del Jockey Club. Then to Capannelle, where he once again finished last in the Premio Roma. I think it's possible he's been over-raced at season's end.
This year's Japan Cup is the only race I've ever seen Viola Ici run badly in. But in all fairness, the Japan Cup was a top-class, G1 field from start to finish. Many of the very best turf horses in the world from both Japan and Europe. That said, Viola Ici's record speaks for itself. 20-10-4-2, and back to back victories in this race. Beating the outstanding Aga Khan filly, Ashalanda in 09', and Cima De Triomphe this year. Personally, I think Viola Ici's the best horse racing in Italy. JMO.
