Filmmaker David Reiss made his first documentary film, "Hope" twenty years ago about his aunt Hope Ricciardi, then a corporate window designer that moved to working as an artist, and opening an art studio when she was forty years old. Twenty years later, Hope is creating paintings from black and white photographs taken in the 1970's by the filmmaker's late father, and in a blend of 16mm film, 35mm stills, and HD Video the film looks back at her past two decades, and ahead to being a painter at sixty.
The film is an Official Selection for the 2010 Utopia Film Festival and an Award of Merit winner in the 2010 Accolade competition in the short documentary film category, and won the Faculty Film Award at the 2010 Women and Minorities in Media (WAMM) Festival.
