  • I have had some questions on this video. To clarify: when i tried to upload the origial video it was too large, even without audio. In order to make the file small enough I had to edit. The easiest way was to drop frames. The end result is the video plays faster than the original shoot. The illusion of speed is there (that was the point). But to disect the video with mileposts to determine speed is a little much. It wont work, you are seeing edited video. Sit back and enjoy

  • Thanks for the video. Its always great to see cabride videos especially through scenic areas like Abo Canyon. Hope to see more from you in the future, maybe with sound too. BTW, which locomotive is that? The sand fillers actually look blue so I was wondering if it was a CSX unit?

    Thanks for the video.

  • CSX, NO WAY! Most of the CSX power we see out here needs to be overhauled so badly they look like they will fall apart. This is a BNSF unit, I think its an ES (Evolution Series) but may have been good ole Dash-9. Its been a while. Keep an eye out for more.

  • Thanks. It was fun to make it, as this is a bit of a rarity. First, we didnt have to wait our turn to go up. Second this train was powered up like crazy allowing us to do track speed up the canyon. Most of what you see is between 40 and 50 mph. Many trips up this canyon are done at 20 mph, sometimes even less. Keep an eye out, i might post more as they are beginning the process of double track on this section.

  • They can fly because it's a real railroad. I believe part of this has been double tracked in2009.

  • It's hard to tell from the video just how steep the grade is on this stretch. At 0:15, the top of the ridge is the elevation that will be reached by the end of the video, 6 1/2 minutes later. I was just out there on Sunday 12/19 and the second main track is still not in place.

  • how do you become an L, engeneer what do you start out as or entery level position and how long does it take to become a L-Engeneer?

  • I would love to be an Engineer. South west is beutiful country. I wish I could move back.
