Walking around Hibarigaoka Station in August 1991. Included view of the beginnings of construction of Parco, the shotengai (shopping street), the old station (it looks completely different now), and getting on a train for Ikebukuro.

  • Cool! The Seiyu building is till there I see. No Parkcity, no Parco and definitely no Hibari-tower. Awesome!

Got any more Ooizumi or Shakujii footage? Interested to see what the station area looked like back then.

  • I'm sure I've got footage of the area around Shakuji-koen Station and probably footage of the station as well. Ooizumi-gakuen... I think so, but it may be hard to find it. I have a lot of material from 1990-92, but it's not labeled really well. - LHS

  • That would be awesome! Ive lived in Ooizumi & Shakujii for a good 5 years now, but it was still after they built the "towers"

Would love to see what it looked like before :)

  • Okay, I'll get something up. But give me a little time, I've got some other projects I need to get past first. Incidentally, the series of express trains in the morning in "Morning Tokyo Trains in 1991" was taken at Shakujikoen. Then I rode a train to Hibarigaoka for the last pictures of the morning crush-rush (you're lucky you missed how crowded the trains used to be!). - LHS

  • I noticed that there were lots of bikes there :D

By the way... Is the person at 0:58 a little girl? If she is, thats pretty weird costume ^^

For a little girl, it is.

  • Yeah, that's a little girl. I wouldn't call it weird, but it's not something you'd likely see in the west. Actually, not here any more either - although some people still dressed kids like that in when the video was taken in 1991. Hats are worn by kids here a lot more than in the west. Actually, the hat is the only thing that looks unusual I think. It's sort of like how parents would dress kids up in the US in the 1950's. - LHS

  • Yeah, I found the hat to be a bit loli'sh. Well, im looking for your next vid ^^

  • Well, the station's a bit different, and that construction site is where Parco now sits, but basically it's the same place. I keep looking for video of the buildings that they tore down to make way for Parco, but it never seems to have occurred to me to record that. The McDonald's was in an old building that used to be a supermarket, etc. - LHS

  • Hi, Lyle! Give or take a few new building (or old ones demolished) it doesn't really seem to have changed all that much, does it?
