This week The Jerusalem Institute of Justice and The International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem joined together to contribute to the Ethiopian community in Israel.
This initiation is one of the many advanced by The Jerusalem Institute of Justice which has a goal to integrate and make successful Jewish Ethiopians in Israeli society. The two organizations distributed uniforms to 12 teams which participated in a special soccer league of mostly Ethiopian new immigrants along with native Israelis.
Last Saturday, the tournament began with a game commemorating the 4,000 Ethiopian Jews that lost their lives in Sudan on their way to Israel during the mid-1980s.
The league consists of teams from all over Israel. Due to the low socio economic status of most Ethiopians in Israel, many young men find themselves on the wrong side of the law; therefore the league is very important for the Ethiopian community because it encourages sportsmanship and leadership instead of criminal activity.
Attorney Calev Myers, the founder and legal advisor of JIJ congratulated the players and was honored to kick the first ball in the game. He said to the players "I'm proud to lead an organization which promotes the sports in the Ethiopian community and I wish you all good luck in the games and in your future."
Hi! I hope Israel and Ethiopia will be the same Nation One Day. An not because of Imperialism but because of Cultural Brotherhood! ETHIOPIA is a Great Land full of bad politicians!
