  • I have heard all performances of this, in my opinion, masterpiece. The performance that still holds its place is the one by Evgeny Mravinsky and the Leningrad Philharmonic. That performance was released in the West on many incarnations and is the one that still remains supreme BUT this attempt by Dudamel is excellent and I will buy it as soon as it is available. No one can predict what would become of this Venezuelan talent but he seems to know his Shostakovich very well. Thank you Gustavo.

  • I am a Shostakovich NUT . . . but I haven't heard this symphony yet. This EXCELLENT recording convinces me that I HAVE to.

  • was sarah willis doubling first horn?

  • @MD051 Auf English, bitte schoen.

  • @jslasher1 What are you attempting to say in simple English. It's all gibberish.

  • @LJlovestbone I don't live under rocks, mate. I live in the real world. The 'shiz' sounds like something concocted by some ignorant Yank. I may say whatever I like. Get used to it.

  • @LJlovestbone It is an English class when you are unable to conjugate a single sentence. You should have typed "this is not an English class. Yes, most of those making comments are educated. You, however, are not. I have listened to the music several times. I have the conductor's score in front of me. The Berliner Philharmoniker performance pales in comparison to the performance by the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra conducted by Dudamel.

  • @jslasher1 What I mean by "latin" is the passion, intensity, emotion and sheer joy of life that you see in their faces, young, beautiful faces. You will not find that in any orchestra in the USA or Europe. Teresa Carreno Youth Orchestra under Dudamel is one of the best collection of musicians in the planet. I am trying to unravel this beautifull mystery.

  • @LJlovestbone This is not English class! Most if not all of the people making comments are "educated". Quit being a total arse and listen to the music.

  • @jslasher1 Ok pray tell what rock have you been laying under? The "shiz" means politely the stuff. BTW, it is not your place to say what I can say or how jack....

  • @FungoBoy He most certainly does.

  • @ctfamily40 Any performer in a professional orchestra who 'banters' during a performance should be 'sacked'. No more work, mates.
