subject: Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets update--a tribute to Matthew La Porte
This past weekend, the university, the Corps of Cadets, and the Highty-Tighties honored the family of Cadet Matthew J. La Porte at the annual Highty-Tighty Alumni Reunion. During the event, the La Porte family was presented his diploma by Professor Ilja Luciak (who said his department likes having cadets in class because it means there is leadership present), his class ring, a resolution from the HT Alumni, and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol, presented by Cadet Nathan Boggs, Matthew's roommate. Mrs. La Porte spoke eloquently of her son and about moving forward in a positive way after the tragedy we all experienced on 4-16. She has been gracious enough to allow me to print her remarks in the next issue of the Corps Review.
The Highty-Tighties also showed a video tribute to their fallen band member. It is a beautiful, 4-1/2 minute video. Prepare to be moved.
