  • What was with that number on #464? Why was it #453?

  • TVRM610,

I'm not sure why Marty changed the number. I know that this was his last year in charge and wanted to do something different, hence the double header. Also note the doghouse on the tender. 464 does not normally have one .

  • The more historical approach is also why the ten wheeler was renumbered BACK to its original number, #152 and lettered U.S. During its first career, it worked in Alaska for the Alaska Engineering Commission. It was given the #2 while owned by Hal Wilmunder, back in the early 1970s, before its sale to Genesee County in the mid 1970s.

As to the renumbering, its origin is in why there is a doghouse at all for 464. The doghouse was built around 1989 or 1990 to house a generator that is used on the Christmas trains. Since the rebuild completed in 2005 (I fired her first "recent" trip over the road in August 2005), a more historical approach has been taken and the doghouse is only used on when 464 is renumber as 453, sine 453 was the only K-27 to have a doghouse on the Rio Grande.

  • The Huckleberry rarely does doubleheaders, usually only on Railfan's weekend in August and only when there are 2 operable steamers. I was fireman on one of the locomotives, but I can't remember which one (could be 464 aka 453) and the video quality is so poor, it doesn't help.

  • Does Huckleberry normally do doubleheaders? I've never seen one until I saw this.

  • hey this was the year I went. I remember seeing this when I came there for railroad days. I was the one who screamed....the double headers coming!!!! I was at the station side though. Not here where you filmed
