From the movie "Bob Roberts," here is a cover of the song "Complain." Lyrics below. Enjoy!

Some people must have
Some people have not
And they complain and complain and complain and complain and complain

Some people will work
Some simply will not
But they'll complain and complain and complain and complain and complain

Like this:
It's society's fault
I don't have a job
It's society's fault
I am a slob
I got potential
No one can see
Give me welfare
Let me be me

Hey bud you're livin' in the land of the free
No one's gonna hand you opportunity

Some people must have
Some never will
But they'll complain and complain and complain and complain and complain

Like this:
I don't have a house
I don't have a car
I spend all my time
Drunk in a bar
I wanna be rich
I don't have a brain
Give me a handout
While I complain

Or this:
I wanna stay in bed
And watch TV
And go out weekends in a limousine
And dance all night taking lots of drugs
And wake up
When I wanna

Hey bud you're livin' in the land of the free
No one's gonna hand you opportunity

Some people must have
Some never will
But they'll complain and complain and complain and complain and complain
Yeah they'll complain and complain and complain and complain and complain

  • Might want to add to the descriptions of yer Bob Roberts covers that these are satirical songs, meant to actually make fun of right-wing mentality. It seems like a lot of folks viewing your covers have no awareness of "Bob Roberts."

  • @SweetDissident I think you have no awareness of what I am doing. :-) Perhaps more to the point, Tim Robbins was wrong.

  • @pudgenet Oh, my mistake. You have my sympathies, and I hope they find the right medications for you soon. Tim Robbins' songs were satire. For you to take them seriously as a pertinent critique is, well, scary and sad.

  • @SweetDissident You're confused. Yes, his songs were satire, but he unfortunately didn't quite understand what he was satirizing. That's fixed in my version, which is also satire. And that you didn't get that it was satire, and think it is serious, is kinda the point.

  • @pudgenet yer kinda silly, u know.

  • @SweetDissident I do.

  • OWS, anyone?

  • How what I wrote is sad and ignorant escapes me, but if you're upset about Repubs. actually loving the songs even when they know it's satire (yes, I get you're endless satire argument, duh), then that is your problem. More GOP liked BR than Dems, so something wasn't working for poor ol' Tim. I remember it. Do you?

I get the sense that you think you know it all so this is where I will leave you. Spout off with quotes from Chomsky next time--you'll go far. Your boy is out in '12. Sorry!!

  • @lewiske That is both the saddest and most ignorant thing I have ever read. It's called "satire." Jesus.

  • @SweetDissident

Whatever this debate about satire is supposed to amount to, I dunno. I do know, as someone who saw this in the theater and liked it (even as a fascist, neanderthal, GOPer), that Robbins didn't put out the soundtrack because it was right-wingers like me who liked the movie (even tho it was backhanded, to say the least) and the songs more than liberals did and he didn't want Republicans listening to the tunes all day. He shot himself in the foot with Bob Roberts.
