This is part 1 of 6 tutorials that show you the viewer, how to properly use the cloth modifier in 3DS Max 2009. I will show you the steps from beginning to end. Everything necessary to duplicate my flag animation.

A CLOTH TEST TURNED TUTORIAL:
This test still works with dynamic forces such as wind, gravity or whatever though it is NOT reactor based. It is far easier to work with a cloth modifier rather than a reactor based cloth simulation.

a good solution for the flag mesh will be to make a rect and then Garment Maker

yeah i know but its an extra step i didnt feel these people needed. If i were going to make a flag tutorial where i made the rips and shreds with geometry instead of opacity maps i would have made it with a spline and garment maker.

i just wanted to keep this simple for the novice and that is just how i made it originally. learning alpha channel management is important anyway. thnx for yer comment my friend.

I'm having problems with the node bit... i get the group created no worries with the vertices... i hightlight it and go node but it then doesn't seem to let me select the flagpole....
