WATCH IN HD! PS that finale. AGH.
Storyline: I wanted to portray how Arthur felt as he transitioned from prince to king. As the prince, he saw Merlin as a friend and servant, someone who he could talk to. But as he became King he pushed Merlin and everyone else away, believing he was alone. But as time progresses he realizes that he's not alone and that Merlin has always been there for him.
PPS sorry I didn't put in that epic quote where Arthur jokingly tells Merlin that he's the only friend he has. All of this was already planned out, and when I put it in it just didn't have the same flow as it did without it. But those scenes from the finale surely helped patch up what was just empty space! :D

I just came onto this page again and noticed that the disklike button is highlighted for me. Shit! I didn't click dislike, must have done it accidentally. This is beautifully made and so touching. The part where Arthur says everyone deceives him made me think - I hope when merlins secret does finally come out Arthur doesn't treat him as if he has deceived him.
Again this was amazing :3

@borrowyourlight I think that's what Merlin's face was showing then, what he hoped would happen, etc. I totally agree with you :)
