Associate Professor Paula Leitz talks about a J-Term Study Away course in Namibia.
The Course: Education students will complete the first six weeks of their student teaching experience in Windhoek, Namibia. Namibia is located along the southern Atlantic coast of Africa, between Angola and South Africa. Although it is the 31st largest country in the world, it is on of the least densely populated with less than 2 million people living there. The national language is English, although the vast majority of peoples first language is one of at least 13 different ethnic dialects spoken. You will be assigned to a school in the township called Katutura with 2 to 3 other student teachers. In addition to teaching, there will be plenty of opportunities to visit the world famous sand dunes, the Namib Desert (oldest desert in the world), Etosha National Park, and participate in many different cultural events both at your school and in the local community.
