wood gas camp stove prototype, gasification process. one cup of tea from a hand full of wood chip burning for 6-8 minutes. (my apologies for calling downdraft in the intro, I was researching their design also.)

  • right on bro, its worth the experimenting.

hope it helped a bit, and keep on keep'n on!

  • yea this was a scaled down model. my second build has a ported stand off to keep the flame stoked. it's made of aother partial can fitting into the hallow side-wall for easy storage.

  • how do you cut the cans ??

  • I used a jig saw and sheet metal shears to trim for a tight fit.for the hole on the sides you can just use a small nail and hammer to start the holes an then enlarge them with a multi-bit, or just progressively use large drill bits till you get the size inlets you want. don't forget the inner can needs holes on the bottom to pull in oxygen and holes about a 1/2" down around the top to pull in the secondary preheated air to burn off the hydrocarbons. this will give you the clean "smokeless" burn.

  • it's a take off of the basic rocket stove that is fed fuel and air from the bottom. the flu focus and reflects heat while creating and up draft pulling more air in increasing combustion.

  • How long does it take to start the fire in the stove?

  • i think about a 30sec. - minute to be burning sable enough to cover with a pot. this ones a little quicker cause of how compact it is, but for light cooking i would use the next size up soup can(burns longer). use a little lighter fluid and it should be ready within the minute. also my new stand off on my large stove has an access hole cut out for adding more wood chips while keeping the pan on the heat.

  • i don't see any gasification taking place

  • That kettle looks like it radiates alot of heat, wasted energy.

  • well done..

  • good job. it took me several tries to finally get it right

  • very nice pot stand

  • How would you add more wood to it to keep it burning if your tea kettle is on top?

I think it is a nice design but you may want to make the standoff taller so you can add more wood if you need to without removing the kettle.
