  • The dropbox thing sounds awesome, I am a very poor back-upper of my work.

How did your first year go? Pass with flying colours?

  • @Alura I don't know yet, haven't finished handing in an essay. I'm sure it'll be fine though.

  • I'm just going to second all of those tips.

Going along with the Wikipedia thing--another good thing to do is find one article you're planning on using and look at the sources that author used and check those out as they'll often be relevant as well.

  • @tallatstarbucks SOURCE-CEPTION. But it's true.

  • I guess I'm just too "old school" for Dropbox (even worse than Bill, if you can imagine anyone could actually be older... LOL). I'm just not willing to trust my critical personal data to "the cloud." I prefer to keep my backups locally, where *I'm* in control of their wellbeing.

1 TB external hard drives are in the $70 range now, and the WD drives come with a great utility that automates backups. I have 2 of them, side by side. The second is a backup for the first. Yeah, I'm that fussy...

  • @anmoose The great thing about dropbox being free is I can still back up stuff on local harddrives, but I can have an automatic backup. I'm a long way from only storing my data in the cloud, but having said that, I store all my email in the cloud and have never had a problem with it.

  • College is weird. It's just like high school, but there are all of these old people there.

  • Ah thank you so much!

I start uni in like a week (oh my days I can't believe it) and I hadn't thought much about these points before

  • My dad's number one tech tip for college is to make friends with a computer nerd. I plan on it.

  • Good tips Ali.
