Thinkt Tank Photo Sling-O-Matic Review

When the Think Tank Photo Slin-O-Matic was announced I was not sure this would be a bag for me. Its main selling feature is that it is a sling bag that lets you switch which shoulder you use.

I have personally never used a sling bag until now. What I loved about this bag beside how well it is built is that it does more than let you easily carry a lot of gear. It lets me shoot out of it as if it were a shoulder bag when I put it down on the ground.

Where this bag shines is if you are going to be on a shoot that requires a lot of walking as well as shooting when you get to your location. The bag is extremely comfortable on your back even when carrying over long distances. Most back pack bags fail when you are trying to shoot, its not easy to get your gear in and out quickly and you can not grab and go with the bag. The slingo-o-matic 20 lets me easily shoot out of it like i would if i were using my Retrospective 30. If I need to grab and go its a quick zipper of the main compartment followed by 3 or 4 different ways to carry the bag. You can grab the top handle, side handle, sling it, or put it over one shoulder.

This bag is not just for pro's, if you travel with the family going to the park or on vacation it is perfect for you. You can load it with the camera gear you need and still have extra space to carry around other important possibly no photography items. One thing I have not mentioned is that you can "Sling" the bag around to the front for easy access to your gear if you want to shoot while standing or on the move.

Overall I really dig this bag and its big brother the sling-o-matic 30 which allows you to carry a lap top. Take a look at the video below to see how I have been using it and see if it works for you.

  • Hey Jared, even though you would put a laptop in the Sling-o-matic 20, would you consider it safe enough for an iPad? or would you still recommend the next model up? Thanks in advance!

  • @rawdk yea it should work fine in there.

  • Jared, do you think it is tight with the Nikon D3s body? Think tank said is this bag is tight for Nikon D3s body.

  • @kob7447 I have no problems with it at all, I keep the 24-70 on it and face it down in the bag.

  • do you have the 50 1.4 af-d or af-s? i'm thinking of getting the af-d for my d300s, do you think it's worth it to spend more for the af-s?

  • @edelosada I have the AFD and still love it.

  • hey Jared.

love your vids man, there really informative and helpful. just a quick question on the bag, how well would a tripod fit in the side pocket or does it have an attachment point for a tripod or bag?

  • @dgillespie13 I see your point now. I don't know how did he come up with the name 'Hebrew Trinity'. We just know that he refers to the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200 :)

  • @blackneno Japan is in Asia, unless I missed something. Jared often references his Hebrew trinity of lenses, that was the reason for the comment.

  • @dgillespie13 Nikon is owned and found by Japanese so I don't see how being made in Asia is strange :)

  • Is it me, or is it strange that the Hebrew trinity is designed and manufactured in Asia? Maybe not. Enjoy your videos.

  • @AlternativeEnergyNC Check out the Think Tank Shape Shifter

  • Jared, What bag is best for travel. I generally carry a few books...a Canon D7, 24-70 F2.8 L , and a 70-200 F2.8 L. Something that also allows me to bring a laptop (small) etc....needs to be a carry on for a plane as well.

  • I used to do cartwheels like that but then i took a jpeg to the knee

  • Jared, what would you recommend for 2 bodies + 4 lenses backpack?

  • can u do some lowepro bags review ??
