This isn't about how good the grass looks, it's about the technique of instancing, meaning that he can hae as much grass as he wants and not lower the FPS.

this grass is hardly epic. use tessellation for individual blades and then raster with gamma corrected anti-aliasing with indirect frenel specular reflections and sub surface scattering applied to the grass.Then make the grass react realistically to the environment and player movements. Do this and you can call it epic. As it stands it is shit. I would quit worrying about the grass and get some type of lighting going aside from flat shading. FFS its just grass - if the game is good no one cares.

Oblivion on PC had better grass than that 5 years ago, that game looks like garbage.

You should look for some gameplay of Flower, a PS3 game that undoubtly has the best grass in any game today.
