Before his "traffic light" there was one that looks much more like the traditional ones that we use today. Google William Potts Traffic Light and then Google Garrett Morgan Traffic Light. Ask yourself which design best matches those used today. As for the "gas mask" Morgan didn't even crate one! He created a device with long tubes that drew air up from the ground (less smoke than above air).
