  • MHFCHrist,

I did not spell Chase? SAT is a national standardized test that all high school kids take - they measure your academic performance which Gallaudet does not use. They design their own tests.

Gallaudet needs to go the similiar route as other colleges/univeristies to keep their educational standards high. Choose a SAT score to admit higher performing students.

  • Hasnamaste,

I agree - losing the university status won't hurt Gallaudet as long as they have students come and enroll.

  • Rosco,

7% is inaccurate. I believe it was 40-50% graduation rate.

It is not just because of the graduation rate, but problems with shared governance in the adm, poor relations with the students, and low standards. Students with 3rd-4th grade levels get enrolled which contributes to low graduation rate. Teachers giving undeserved grades so the students could move up.

I view this as a pivotal point for Gallaudet - for the better.

  • Grad programs are the difference between a college and a university. This means no more Deaf Ed program. That means no more audiologist skilled in ASL. No more skilled psychologist who know how to work with the deaf rather than just diagnosing them as mentally ill. The best way to learn to work with the deaf, whether you are hearing, deaf or hoh, is to be immersed in the culture which is what people in both grad and undergrad get at Gallaudet Univ.

  • Gally SUCKS!!!!! GO RIT because they won for brickfest last weekend! lol

  • As of 2009 I am a Gallaudet student myself at Gallaudet University. What do u mean we should drop Gallaudet University's status? You mean change the name to college? I like Gallaudet University better than "College." And Gallaudet has less than 2,000 people right now, which is fine. Everything you said is true, thanks!

  • Thank you for your critical concerns about that, but what about those who graduated from Gally University -They might keep the university status because it has the excellence of education for the deaf. I totally agree with you on this. Got a glimpse of your word "SAT and Chase"... What does CHASE stand for?

  • I agree that lowering the college/university standards only cause more harm to Gallaudet students who will end up not being able to get the jobs they went to school for. I've seen a few of my Gallaudet friends who are still unemployed. I didn't attend GU, but went to a mainstream university-I have a full time job. It's not fair to them.

  • Well, I couldn't follow this because I don't sign and there are no subtitles.

However I know that Gallaudet is in danger of losing is accredited status because of low graduation rates. Something like 7% if students graduate in 4 years and less than half of students earn degrees at all.

Could be tough times ahead for Gally students
