Bob Glidden NHRA Pro Stock Crash

Bob Glidden has this very bad crash at the 1986 NHRA Southernnationals. Glidden applied the brakes to early at top end and headed straight into the guard rail and rolled the car more than five times, one of the worst NHRA drag racing crashes form the 1980's.

actually it was the parachute if you watch it deploys uneven and whips from the drivers side to the passengers side pulling the rear of the car arround.

Yes, one of the lines holding the chute to the car broke causing it to pull to one side.

slimjim18, What I saw and believe I saw it correctly was, the chute came out,dropped streight down, went under the wheelie bars then opened, when it did it liftied the rear of the car and the chute slid to the side and flipped the car. No he didn't hit the brakes too soon, he was way to seasoned for something that stupid.

It wasn't the chute that ripped but one of the lines holding the chute which pulled the car in the direction he went. It didn't fall under the wheelie bar at all.

nobody will do it . with a ford like bob did it. ford really should be ashamed. for not helping that family. instead they help john force. john prob. doesnt even know the firing order of a big block ford . bob glidden will always be the MAN.

@392g Bob is the MAN, for sure. Back in the day, Bob built his cars, drove the rig to the track, tuned them, and then drove them to victory. Nowadays all you have are paid pussies that can only drive.

Wow!! What the hell is that car made out of? Cardboard?!?! I believe super fast cars shouldn't be super light nor super heavy... but just heavy enough not to make it go airborne like that...Funny cars are gay.....I like the regular drag racing though

Appears to be a drag chute malfunction. I've been around drag racing for 45 years, and the last thing drag racers pay attention to is the chute{s}. It can be a lifesaver or thr worst white knuckle ride ever when it all goes wrong!!.

@392g Its funny you mention that too becasue all of those fuel cars are chrysler powered, the brand logo is but a mere sponsor. You are absolutley right ford shoulda helped the glidden family.. can u imagine how many fords were sold becasue of bob?
