From "Singin' in the storm" album of Shirley Verrett, 1966. A beautiful and brave attempt for an African American OPERA singer at that time.Throughout her long and distinguished career, Shirley Verrett (1931-2010) has been acclaimed for her exceptional gifts as a singing actress, and has won special praise for her unique and varied repertoire.

  • The incomparable Shirley Verrett. A vocal range-and a woman-that would not submit to the stringent confines of a vocal fach, but gave us the full spectrum of color and dynamics, from deep plush contralto to shimmering silver soprano.

  • @dramaturge231 muchas gracias! :)

  • @bellinicallas Por lo que sepa, es un "spiritual", una cancion cantada por los esclavos negros en America. En consecuencia, se desconocen los nombres de los compositores de los spirituals.

  • alguien sabe el nombre del compositor?

  • I'd never heard this song before. Amazing! Beautiful. Sang with such feeling. Performed beautifully.

  • What a beautiful singer/song...we all still need this! Freedom and the people and persons to remind us of this...diana-*
