This track is from the album Night & Day: The Cole Porter Songbook, which is probably in my top ten favorite albums ever, in any genre. Porter's poetic lyrics and playful melodies are brilliant, and Betty Carter's version of this song (the final song on the album) leaves me in awe every time I hear it. "There's no love song finer, but how strange the change from major to minor..."

  • The last 30 seconds gives me chills (...ahem) everytime.

  • @bigbeatshuffletruffl Yes, yes. The best part for me is "how strange the change from major to minor..." Tears me up, yes, everytime.

  • The best rendition ever. Although you don't quite get the feeling of the full orchestra but wonderful.

  • @jazzalout I think so too (best rendition ever). In fact, I can hardly give any other versions a fair listen. I just constantly compare to this one, which is just incomparable. This song was my first exposure to Betty Carter, and it's still my favorite of hers. I don't think I'd like it with the full orchestra, though. In fact, I've always thought there were too many strings in this version.
