RIP Walter Cronkite

God bless "Uncle" Walter. Instead of sensationalizing the news he delivered it accurately and in a manner that calmed an entire nation in crisis after crisis. Why did they break the mold?

@estelle715 It makes a little sense, actually. They were scrambling to get things set up. That's why we only *hear* Cronkite at this moment, set against the CBS title card. Cronkite even mentioned in an interview one time that those old TV cameras they used back then had to warm up. They were turned off and had to be started up cold. Even if they had things ready in the newsroom, they had to wait until the cameras warmed up.

I stopped by here for some research for a sch project but it caught me..Walter Cronkite was an exemplary news reader..its amazing how he handled the whole tragic address without breaking down....

Great post! Showing what was aired at the time. Thank you. It's all about history people.

@hebneh You're right. I have the original file on my channel, although I edited most of the soap opera out, the interruptions are all in the right place.

This has been edited; it's not the original footage as it was seen on CBS at the time. I believe this edited version was shown on the 30th or 40th anniversary of JFK's death. I remember seeing it, probably in 1993.
The original programming can be seen on YouTube. "As The World Turns" was on the air, but the first interruption didn't occur at this point. After the second bulletin, the Nescafe commercial was shown, but it wasn't cut off.
