According to the EU's latest economic forecasts, Latvia's economic output is set to shrink by 6.9 percent - the worst drop of any EU state. Many Latvians have little faith that Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis will be able to cope with the crisis, with tens of thousands taking to the streets of Riga in January to protest against the government's response to the deepening recession and widespread corruption.

  • situace now is even worse. Taxes are raised, but salaries remain the same. and again a lot of people running away from the country to work elsewhere, in Latvian can no longer survive.

  • Becouse after u will pay all the money back to EU, yes exactly, you-not me,becouse of your stupid thinking!

  • The fact that somebody doesn't know latvian doesn't solve a problem!See...Personally I think that nobody cares about that at the moment except latvian nationalists who do not accept any other nationality in Latvia! In fact...u care about your f.... latvian language while thousands of latvians are running away from their country,Isn' that amazing!I am pretty sure that in few years latvian population will fall to 1 million. If u want to support this government and politicians u are fool!

  • Fuc*ing Russians komunist was lived in Latvia.. He live in latvia 17.years, but do not speak in latvian language.

  • Yap!That's true!Nobody cares of latvian population! There's is just big question:What the government and f****n politicians are doing there?!It seems that situation is going out of control!Poverty begins to fill latvian lands and there's no solution at all!And among that all somebody tries to support nationalism and blame neighbour countries as Russia! Latvia needs revolution...Does anybody can give better solution?

  • im from latvia to, born in riga, it true, this fucks in our goverment try to "feed" the people with nationalism and try to bring russia in any issue as the big and evil, but nationalism don't payyur bills or feed your family, and get you a job, you can't eat it, an now we have the biggest GDP loss in the WORLD, no country on earth suffered so hard like latvia from this crisis... 23% unemployment and everybody who works, works for a minimum to make another day...

  • @hiroinus1revival

It's the same... None knows what to expect next. More and more people looseing their jobs, same numbers going away from Latvia for a better lifes. Same sad story. I'm Latvian and I'm afraid about my future. At least my parrents have a job and I'm still student.

  • Yes, it was violent was of expressing an opinion, but violence is usually the only way to get your point across clearly.

  • There were pictures taken where this boy was throwing stones at the police.

  • The young man is lying, he was going to the riot to make problems, you can see him even in tv cameras, where he's attacking the police.
