Czech and German Theatre Project
In October, we finalized our Czech and German Theater Project in cooperation with Kladska School from Prague and Tal School from Backnang (near Stuttgart). Under the direction of Jevište Language School Director Barbora Dočkalová, pupils from both schools rehearsed her own play „An der Grenze" (On the Boarder). They then performed it together as a part of a school exchange programme first in Prague´s Na Prádle Theatre and two weeks later in Backnang, Germany.
The play was tailored especially for an international project supported by the Czech and German Future Fund. As a part of bridging different cultural barriers, the participants had to bridge some language barriers first: the script, including the song lyrics, is in Czech, German and English. The fairy-tale-like musical comedy tells a story of a Czech Honza and a German princess who set out to seek happiness abroad. Both face a lot of discouragement and prejudices from people they see on the way, while on the border they meet with customs officers and groups of tourists who also wish to visit a foreign country. The play culminates with all the characters sharing their prejudices of the other culture in funny, ironic sketches and songs.
At the end, all learn that both countries have their pros and cons and that the main thing is to open yourself up and communicate.
The show includes short videos with authentic material from pupils' home towns and schools, made by pupils themselves as a part of the project.
Super! :)
