After the pour. Aluminum, like any heavy metal will recycle 100% (save the stuff still stuck in the crucible). The ingots are perfectly size for the crucible. Once I get my first foam carving done I can just throw these in and re-melt them.

  • you sound like bill clinton.... in a good way!

  • I'm a libertarian, so I'm only half offended.

  • whats the mold made of?

  • It's made of a cookie-bar baking pan. I bought it at Wal-Mart for 3 buck. Downside, it was coated in Teflon and gave off some funny looking fumes. I don't recommend using a mold like this. It'd probably be just as easy and safer to make the ingot molds in a sand box.

  • i agree with franzyland, what do you do with it?

  • This was sort of a test run. The ingots I made fit well into the crucible so I can re-use them once I get a mold made. I'm planning on doing lost-foam casting once I get the time. As for now, it's just a nice way to consolidate scrap-aluminum in the meantime.

  • what do you do with the ingots?

  • @guitargodof1996 lol you and i have something in common, i am hoping to make the chevy badge a skull and a shiny metal ass that will go near my front door lol

  • lol brilliant joke! and where did you get that ingot tray? is it a brownie tray? im currently using small muffin (like 1.25in across) but ive only done small amounts (25 or so cans yielding just under a pound each melt). at my farm theres a huge fridge unit and were hoping to get tons of aluminum. yes im 13 but i do this with my dad

  • your wife is gonna be pissed when she sees what you did to her pan

  • i hope you are only melting down mlc, since extrusion is worth more than cast(mlc)aluminum. oh wait your using the aluminum for something other than scrap, please continue

  • you could prollly use a section of high grade pressure pipe with a cap but it might melt depending on how good ur foundry is

  • now you can sell the ingots for cash right. Yep I'm a 14 year old pyro who needs some cash. And to cast motorcycle parts cos i race them in the WERA league. My parents are pro with the idea of me doing this, they said just search around to see what i can find, and any help is kindly appreciated.

  • what do you recommend to use as a crucible? im using a charcoal and brick foundry but i still need to get a crucible to use.
