who we are: http://www.lunevalleymdc.co.uk/
We are a group of Metal Detecting enthusiasts who wish to pursue our hobby of finding interesting
historical objects by the use of metal detectors. We also share an interest in history and like to meet
and discuss our finds and experiences. We even might one day find a valuable item -- although this
is a rare occurrence.
where do we meet?
We meet at the Lansil Sports and Social Club, Caton Road, Lancaster on the first Tuesday of each
month.Meetings start at around 8-00pm.We invite guest speakers and we vote on the best finds of
the month in the various categories and discuss club business. We also hold Rallies.
Rallies
We arrange Rallies in agreement with the land-owner/ farmer and our members detect the land from
10-00am to 4-00pm.We follow the NCMD code of conduct and the country code to ensure that we
are responsible as we wish to stay on good terms with land-owners. All members carry Civil Liability
insurance (supplied by the NCMD) Members usually pay around £10-00 each for the day and after a
small amount of administrative cost are taken off by the club the remaining money is made available
to a charity of the land-owners choice.
Individual dectecting
To go metal detecting you will need to find suitable land and get the land-owner's permission to detect.
Club membership provides up to £5,000,000 of Civil Liability insurance which the land-owner will need
in place before detecting. Membership also provides a link to the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS).
The PAS act on behalf of the archaeologists to identify and record finds and to improve the national
picture of history. The Finds Liaison Officer for the North West has close links with the club and attends
most of our meetings. She will help to identify and date any finds and will record them on a database
if considered important.
How can you get involved as a member?
To join our club just come to one of our meetings in Lancaster on the first Tuesday of the month or
contact any of our officers and ask for an application form. Membership costs £15 p.a.
How can you get involved as a landowner?
If you own land which is suitable for detecting please let our chairman, Brian Randall know and we
will advise you as to the suitability for a small club rally or a larger "open" rally. If suitable we could take
over all the organization of the event and keep the land-owner fully informed.Any money raised would
be made available to the charity of the land-owner's choice.
How can you get involved as a charity?
If you are a charity, that would like us to raise money for you then all we need is for you to find us some
land suitable for a rally and with a willing land-owner.With the land-owner's agreement we will then do
the rest and provide the income from the rally to the charity concerned.Last year we raised £2,160 for
charities.
