A lot of you are kinda missing the point about Tifa and Hitomi's final bout in this particular video.

Remember that Monty is referencing each the nuances of the particular origin games for the FF girls.

In Tifa's case, the status effect she inflicted were Poison and DARKNESS. Not Blind. When in darkness, light is all you can see; hence why Hitomi was shown to be able to see flames and could only target the brightly glowing Materia. Inflicting Darkness is the fatal error that cost Tifa the match.

@MintySakuru I agree with you. The time hitomi make her win chun stance, the surroundings turned black. And all she can see is the flames and tifa. Tifa's big mistake.

@bnmftw So there wouldnt be any chance of her missing seeing as she was blocking and not actually initiating an attack until the very end when the spell was wearing off =P lots of love from a Hitomi fangirl =P xoxo

@bnmftw actually it isn't bullshit at all =P because what hitomi did was change fighting styles to a more defensive style of fighting. Yes if she attacked her opponent head on she would have most likely missed but she figured that situation out once she was blinded and consequently switched styles. This new fighting style allows her to counter and hold her ground only when being attacked so her opponent needs to initiate it.
