@anneadoptee ou know, the rights of the child are naturally and legally invested in the parents of the child.

Thank you. I am 52 years old and I just met my birth mother this summer. I am one of the lucky ones. It shouldn't be that way. Everyone has the right to know who they are and where they came from. We are not the property of the state, we are human beings...

(and PA first parents and adoptive parents visit us too!)

I was born in Philadelphia, January 1946 and adopted by the Orphan Courts of Media March 1950. The State of PA will not allow me to have a copy of my Original Birth Certificate, why? Both my adopted parents are dead, perhaps my birth mother is too, now why can't have my original?

That would be discriminatory.
There are already laws in place to protect every adult from unwanted contact by another.

i'm surprised they don't do it the same way as sperm banks. there you can often have the bio father's identity be known, unknown, or known at 18. in the case of adoptees, why not have the mother decide whether or not she wants to be known, and then if yes then allow access (including the birth certificate)? alternatively, the agencies could allow the child and bio mom to each contact them, and if both do, then the identity (and birth certificate) would be released.

Great job of capturing the spirit of the event. The reaction of the guy who thought our situation is "bullshit" was priceless -- you can't script that kind of genuine disbelief.
