Introducing Kindle™
Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle.
We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, reading Kindles screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot and is designed for ambidextrous use so both "lefties" and "righties" can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time.
We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, youll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read.
With Whispernet, you can be almost anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Havent read the book for tomorrow nights book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether youre in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand.
And because we know you can't judge a book by its cover, Kindle lets you download and read the beginning of books for free. This way, you can try it out—if you like it, simply buy and download with 1-Click, right from your Kindle, and continue reading. Want to try a newspaper as well? All newspaper subscriptions start with a risk-free two-week trial.
Kindles paperback size and expandable memory let you travel light with your library. With the freedom to download what you want, when you want, we hope youll never again find yourself stuck without a great read.
We're very proud to introduce Amazon Kindle and we hope you like it as much as we do.

I love books! I'm sorry this might sound stupid, but i actually like getting to hold my book in my hands, having that hard back copy with the cool pictures on the front, and actually flipping the pages. Having that book on the shelf to show it off, and say yeah i read that. There is just something about a book you can't get with these things.

the kindle is for people who don't know what an app is, also just because people like functionality, doesn't mean their trying to be cool

you have to pay for them, they're like 5.99-20.99 depends on which book you download, they are not free

not only are newer books like 10$.. but the older books where the copyright has expired the booksare practicaly free...because they don't even need to pay for the paper. a package of 51 dickens books costs 99 cents. haha

the books are CHEAP! $10 for a book compared to buying them for $20+ in stores....plus your saving paper and space on a shelf! I think KINDLE 2 is a great idea and a great product. iPhone is for the highschool kid who thinks he is cool new age....iPhone sux....G1 is better.

There are other small and large portable computers that do that and much much more, and in color. The kindle looks like something from the 1990s, the black and white screen and it only has 1 function. My Dell Axim has a ton more storage, access to internet, and I can read books on as much storage as I put on my SD or CompactFlash card. Heck the iphone does this and more as well. Why would anyone pay almost $400 for such a basic device as the Kindle???? Unless they don't know any better.

thats because theyll charge you a fortune for downloading each book duh...seems pretty pointless imo
