The awesome Su'a Loli Keli tattooing at Safua Hotel:) The master I say. Nice tat by the way, I heard the guitar strumming and thought it sounded like Safua. I miss home from this. Thanks for sharing
I have an adjunct theory in which I believe that the onomatapea of Tatau has been taken by Robert Louis Stevenson to his Scottish heritage in Edinburgh and the onomatapea as the 'snare drum tapping' as we now known as the etymological origins of the Royal Military Tattoe in Scotland today. RLS, methinks, Tim Tufuga
I have heard Albert Wendt give a lecture in Hawaii regarding the semantical & etymological origins of the noun & verb Tatau in which he proporsitions the notion & concept that the Tatau in Samoan origins may implie the wringing out of the blood & pain ie, "ia tatau le niu ise tauaga"? I propose a theory of my own in which the verb noun is in fact a onomatapea, meaning that it is a sounding word, the sounding of the tapping of the tattoeists stick the inciser a rhythmic ta tau ta tau.
