1940 Operation Weserübung: Danmark

UFA Tonwoche No. 502. April 17, 1940.In the early morning hours of April 9,German troops landed at numerous harbours in Denmark and Norway in order to secure their neutrality. On board a transport ship shortly before going into action. The last orders are given out. Night watch on board. The first German troops land at Copenhagen. Weapons, munitions and supplies are unloaded. The border points are quickly occupied.A few moments later the Luftwaffe flies over the city according to schedule. They drop leaflets instructing the population that the German troops have not come as enemies, but as friends and have only come to defend Danish neutrality. The German commander meets with the Danish government in the early morning hours of April 9. German and Danish commanders work together.The Danish troops offer no resistance. The Copenhagen police, disarmed in the early morning hours, are given back their weapons according to a royal declaration. English traitors and enemy agents are rounded up.Drive through the city. By mid-day Copenhagen has returned to its normal daily life. The King rides through the city. Here is the City Square. More German troops land at Copenhagen harbour. All the railway connections and transport points of Denmark are occupied.
