There are 3 hours of awards that are done before the live show. This was over an hour before the live show on TV started.

Because there are 3 HOURS of awards that aren't broadcast on TV. It's called the Pre-Award show. It occurs hours before the show. I think it started at 1pm and finished around 4pm. The live show was at 5PM.
