"Let the light of truth back in ..."
Exactly. This is the only way we can transcend our pain and suffering.
From Mary's exquisite 'Between Daylight and Dark' album (2007).

Truly, Mary is a songwtiter's songwriter. She is beyond outstanding.
-
She definitely deserves a larger following - I wonder, does she want it? If so, there must be a way to make that happen, if she has good management. I have only 3 of her CDs. All I know is that I will never tire of listening to her. Every time i hear her, I am blown away all over again. Even if she never sang a note, she could publish her work as a poet; and maybe she will get around to that, too. Her music, though, just adds two more layers of genius to her prose.

This is a 'potential end of love' song, and as one who has been there more than once but never been able to express the feelings, I can only say that this piece of writing is sheer genius - impeccable poetry, as is so much of Mary's work. I have only recently discovered her; and all I can say is she is the best 'find' of this decade for me (and maybe for more to come).

Interpretation is maybe always a fake, but I would speculate that this a love song
"The same road that brought me to you is gonna carry me away" &
"Ill come back to get you
but baby I can't stay" hint at a story about an impossible love-relationship with another human.
The singer sounds poisoned by this centuries old sin. I think that people should try to direct heir love more to their own soul & the spiritual world,
instead of trying to become satisfied by another imperfect human being.

This gal is more than mere words can describe......truely Gifted

Why she's not more popular? ..... could be due to the fact that most people are afraid of dept, ....

Have been listening to Mary for 3-4 years now. Her songs are beautifully bittersweet, but always have a note of comfort and hope within them.
Thank you for posting. I saw Mary perform in Washington DC last September and she is remarkable. I had the privilege of speaking to her for a bit, and she impressed me all the way around. Wonderful talent, long time coming.

agreed she is a major talent and it was a privilege to see her in a relatively small crowd but you could not help wishing that she had a much bigger following ans appreciation - she certainly deserves it and hopefully that will develop over time
